If you love Little Women in the form of the book or a movie, you are going to LOVE The Little Women Cookbook written by Wini Moranville. The March Sisters are such a memorable group; Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy. Each of them have their own personality, and plans for the future. They might drive each other mad, but as sisters they learn what it means to be a family. One of the big parts of being a family is the food they eat. As you move through the story you see how big of a role food has to play in understanding them as a family.
Remember when they give their Christmas Day Breakfast to a family of poor German immigrants. They go home and eat a simple meal of bread and milk, and the holiday is still something special to them. This cookbook contains over 50 recipes and from fancy to everyday food options. The recipes are filled with background from the story and you quickly understand why this recipe was important. Now you have the chance to bring this dishes to your kitchen.
I guess I must have been in a holiday mood when I was writing down my favorite recipes from this cookbook, but this will give you an idea of how each character contributes to the entire cookbook. You will have fun creating; Amy’s “Christmas Day” muffins, Meg’s “Plum” Pudding (this recipe doesn’t even require a special mold to make it!) Jo’s Gingerbread and a super simple but great sauce, Meg’s Currant Jelly Sauce. Of course there are many more food occasions in this book and I can’t wait until you try them out for yourselves.
If you love the March Sisters and want to bring them into your home with wonderful food from the time period, The Little Women Cookbook is something you will want to buy for yourself. In the spirit of sharing, this book would also be a welcome gift to any friends or family members that love Little Women as much as we do. I give this cookbook 5 stars and hope that it inspires you to read this wonderful story again (and again!).
