Let’s Explore Bread! written by Jill Colella is a great book for kids interested in learning how bread is made. This book is geared towards 4 to 8 year old readers and the grade level is P – 2. Originally I was going to call this a cookbook, but really it is so much more. There are experiments in this book – such as Yeast in Action which is an activity to show the readers how yeast is a living thing. The question and answers in this book are also geared perfectly for this age group. I thought the question – Why do you say bake bread instead of cook bread? was interesting even for adults!

Out of 5 simple ingredients; flour, water, yeast, salt and oil she shows us how to make different types of bread. The photography to supplement the content was colorful and engaging. And as an added bonus, there is a QR code in the back of the book to take you to a video for additional learning and understanding.

Let’s Explore Bread! is an easy to understand book put in an easy format for young children to understand. If you know an inspired baker to be, this is a perfect book to introduce them to.

PS – The Teddy Bear Bread is something that young and old alike are going to love making!
