In Her Shadow written by Kristin Miller, is a very interesting book in the Mysteries and Thrillers genre. This story is told from multiple characters points of view and has you guessing at the plot from the very start of the story. I have never had the pleasure of reading Kristin Miller’s other books, but she is now at the top of my reading list after enjoying this story so much. If you are looking for a fast paced thriller to entertain you, I highly recommend this book.
In Her Shadow Chapter Titles
If you want to keep the tension rising in a thriller book, you can’t do it much better than a count down to the main character’s murder. Each chapter starts with a notch on the story timeline; One Week Until Colleen’s Murder, Six Days Until Colleen’s Murder, July Fifteenth of Last Year, Five Days Until Colleen’s Murder and it continues to count down. Then we learn about the character this is narrating that chapter. In this story, everyone is under suspicion and everyone’s point of view is, a tad bit unique.
The Story – it’s Characters and it’s Location
Colleen is pregnant and has just been told that she needed to get some rest, so her boyfriend Michael has swept her off to his estate named Ravenwood. He assures her that this will be the perfect no-stress place for her to relax. The estate is massive and it comes with many questions, such has why has an entire section of the house been locked up and not available for Colleen to see. Michael has an important job that keeps him busy at work and soon Colleen is finding that she has too much time on her hands in Ravenwood. She is starting to question the extreme loyalty to Michael’s wife that suddenly left him on the night of their anniversary.
Samara is the housekeeper and she continues to make references to Joanna that confuse Colleen and cause her to worry. Dean is the chef, and he continues to make Joanna’s favorite meals. Colleen finds that their neighbors Travis and Rachael Martin are also closely tied to Joanna and Travis also works with Michael. Colleen is a bit confused by this, because she met Michael at his company shortly after Joanna left him, and until she met Travis next door she didn’t even recognize him from the time that she worked there.
But now this quiet town is turned upside down as a body is found nearby and an investigation begins when the body is identified as Joanna, who did not leave town to be with her sister as Michael had been saying.
In Her Shadow is a fast paced story as you learn about people in the town, and what their relationships with Joanna had been. Nothing is as it seems, and the clock is literally counting down in each chapter. Will Colleen make it out alive, or will her fate be tied to what Joanna had experienced at Ravenwood. A great read, if you love a good thriller, add this book to your reading list, you won’t be disappointed.
