The weather outside is frightful, and it’s long past the rosy holiday season where this kind of statement brings about feelings of warmth and celebration. In reality, it’s just darn cold outside. With another 10 inches of snow delivered last night, it’s time to take some drastic measures before going out to shovel all that snow. I was thinking about what could bring on some happiness in this depth of winter. I decided to make a batch of Pina Colada Sugar Scrub, and share the recipe with you.
The smell of the tropics
Thoughts of pineapple and coconut can trick my nose into thinking tropical climate. This recipe is really easy to make, and you can use it in a shower or bath whichever you choose. The good news is, not only is the smell of this sugar scrub delightful, but it’s a treat for your dry winter skin. It will give your skin a new life as it sloughs off the dead skin and leaves behind soft healthy skin.
All you will need is; white sugar, coconut oil, pineapple fragrance oil, if you’d like a little bit of color you can add a few drops of yellow food coloring and a mason jar. I decided to also add in a little lemon zest to the portion that I am going to use today, but I didn’t include that into the mason jar because I wanted it to have a longer shelf life in the jar.
For the fragrance oil I tried out a variety pack from Eternal Essence Oils that worked really well for my sugar scrubs. I started with a 6 pack of tropical scents which included; Coconut Cream, Bay Rum, Pina Colada, Tahitian Vanilla, Ocean Breeze, Pineapple. These fragrance oils are designed to work for skin and hair care projects, which is what I was looking for. But they also suggest that these oils are good for air fresheners, candles, soaps, scented dryer sheets, freshening carpets and other uses. So, if you are looking to invest in a good set, you can use these for a lot of different projects to bring the scent of the tropics to your winter home. Pina Colada Sugar Scrub Recipe
1 cup white sugar
1/2 cub Organic Coconut Oil
Pineapple Fragrance Oil
Yellow food coloring (about 3 drops, a little goes a long ways) (optional)
If your coconut oil is in solid form, go ahead and warm it in the microwave until it melt a little. This will make it easier to stir into the sugar.
Mix the sugar and coconut oil together until well blended.
Add in the food coloring and mix well (if you want to, I prefer mine to be color free).
Add in the fragrance oil (I use about 1/2 teaspoon for mine, but use the amount that you like)
Put sugar scrub in the mason jar and you are all set!
I hope you enjoy this pina colada sugar scrub and it transports to you to a happy place. Think warm thoughts!
